Stitching, Reading and Relaxing

Just when you think thing can’t get more hectic, life sends a few more curveballs in your direction.  Things have been crazy busy at work and also here at home.  There simply are not enough hours in the day!  And to add to all that, we’ve been in the midst of a heat wave here in NYC since last week.  Hot, humid and yucky!

So, I did my best to relax amidst the chaos by reading and sewing on the weekends.  I’m hooked on the Outlander books; right now I’m reading the second one, Dragonfly in Amber, and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve always liked historical fiction and these books are just great!

The past two weekends have been good beach weather here, so that’s where I’ve been, with my book and EPP.  There’s nothing like sitting on the beach, listening to the crashing waves, soaking up the warmth of the sun and the cool breezes that (thankfully!) come off the ocean.  It’s the perfect stress reliever!

After I got home from the beach today, I laid out all my stars grouped by color.  Of course, my cat decided she just had to lay on top of them.  Do cats have some type of radar when I’m laying out my blocks or what?

I wish I could get that comfortable!

I wonder if she’s counting them?

She finally left when she heard someone filling her food dish and I took the opportunity to try a random, scrappy layout.  I’ve finished 55 of them!

I’m still not sure how many I’m going to make or what layout I’m going to go with, let alone borders or binding.  That’s what I have to think about this week.

I’m linking up to Slow Stitching Sunday and Life Under Quilts.

Have a great week everyone and keep stitching!

Your bright cheerful stars are very nicely pieced. Centers match great. I also like nothing better than a beach, a good book and hand sewing. Good for you to take the time on the weekends.

I love seeing all the colorful stars lauded out, so beautiful. It is hot here in NYC.

I’ve read and totally enjoyed all of the Outlander books except for her most recent one. I will most certainly get to it when life slows down a bit. Some of the graphic scenes in the TV show are hard to watch so season 1 I spent with my thumb on the channel up button and then going back when I thought the hard to watch stuff was over.
Your rosettes and hexies are beautiful. I cannot 🙂 jump on that bandwagon, not with all the projects I have going on here….
Enjoy the beach when you can…..

I just LOVE your stars! They’re going to make a fabulous quilt! And I agree that a beach, a good book and EPP make a wonderful way to spend a weekend. I’m looking forward to doing just that myself … in a little over 5 weeks now.

I love all those jewell colours – and the tumbling blocks effect you’ve created is really exciting too! Really, you can’t have a quilt without a cat joining in on the act, it must be a law or something!

Wow! Your stars are looking wonderful. Which layout do you think you’ll go with? Random or by colour? I like both 🙂 It’s always such fun to play with the layouts before they’re stitched together too – I can see why your cat wants to be part of it!!

Love the colours of your stars, this for sure will be a beautiful quilt, no matter how you pair those stars!
And the cat is a great reference for the size of all these stars 😉

I love your two-tone stars! I’ve only used hexies in my EPP, but your blocks are making me think I might need to try some diamonds! Of course, I’m already working on two hexie projects and a redwork embroidery quilt. So many quilt ideas, so little time…

I used to sew at the beach when I lived in Australia. We’d go surf fishing but having an English/Irish ancestry even the best sun screen can only last so long, so it was off to the shade for sewing hexagons

I know exactly what you mean Kay! I have to sit under an umbrella if I stay at the beach more than an hour or two or I’ll get an awful sunburn. But once I’m set up with my umbrella and sewing I’m good for the day!
